Description
Pick one of four pilots, each with a distinct fire pattern, and navigate the tightening arena through a roguelike draft of upgrade cards. WASD only, no clicks to shoot — every decision lives in three choices: which pilot you bring, which upgrades you draft, and where you stand.
Proximity to the center means danger, but it’s also where your damage amplifies most. Three game modes let you pace the experience your way: Campaign, Quick Run, and Endless.
Gameplay
Goal: Survive multiple stages and defeat bosses as the arena shrinks around you.
Mechanics:
- Move with WASD or arrow keys. Your weapon fires automatically, so every choice is about positioning.
- Clear stages by eliminating enemies. Boss encounters escalate the challenge and shrink the arena.
- Draft upgrade cards after each stage to build your run’s direction.
- Navigate toward the center black hole where your projectiles gain bonus damage, but direct contact is fatal.
- Choose your pilot and fire pattern: Starfire fires in four directions, Tempest unleashes a rapid stream, Blaster lobs explosive shells, or Cyclone launches orbiting projectiles.
- Earn gold to unlock permanent progression that carries between runs.
Key Features
- Shrinking Arena: The playfield contracts after every boss, creating a tightening difficulty curve where positioning becomes your only real decision.
- Danger Equals Power: The black hole at the center kills on contact but amplifies your damage.
- Choose Your Pilot: Each character fires in a unique pattern and unlocks signature upgrades.
- Dynamic Upgrade Draft: Cards reshape throughout your run, with early picks laying foundations and late picks unlocking powerful combinations.
- Three Play Modes: Campaign offers the full experience, Quick Run fits into shorter sessions, and Endless pushes your survival time for leaderboard competition.
- Accessible for Everyone: Colorblind modes, reduced-motion options, and responsive design for comfortable long-term play.
What Makes It Stand Out
Black Hole Survivor inverts how auto-shooters build tension. Instead of throwing more enemies at you, the arena itself becomes your opponent by contracting after each boss. The space you have shrinks steadily, forcing you into tighter, more dangerous positions where every pixel of positioning matters.
The twist is that your greatest danger is also your greatest power. The black hole at the center kills instantly on contact, but it’s also where your projectiles hit hardest. This paradox shapes everything: you’re drawn toward the center by necessity, and every run becomes a dance between safety and damage.
